Film Fest on at Waitomo

IT’S all on at Waitomo Museum of Caves tomorrow night with the annual roadshow version of the New Zealand Mountain Film Festival screening. The festival is run every year as a fundraiser for the museum, specifically for the outdoor education service it operates, but had to be canned last year due to ongoing Covid-19 lockdowns. “It’s amazing when you get out and about around New Zealand, you hear how many people have actually come to the museum and done outdoor adventure things,” organiser Biddy Stubbs said. “We’ve just got to keep them going.” The screenings tomorrow and Saturday night coincide with the first weekend of the school holidays. Biddy expected the films, which are a mixture of international and New Zealand-made, to appeal to a range of audiences of all ages. And tomorrow night a special guest is organised to attend. “Night one we’ve got a local rock climber who is in one of the films we’re showing called The Airport Wall based in the Milford Sounds. “His name is Karl ‘Merry’ Schimanski and he’ll be there on Friday night answering questions.” Tickets are limited to 50 each night.
