This week's report from local police.
October 24 A RED Honda TRX420 was reported stolen from a farm shed on Pokuru Rd, Ōtorohanga. AT about midnight, the yard of a commercial address on Main North Rd, Ōtorohanga is reported to have been entered. An unknown amount of diesel, and tools and equipment to around the value of $3000 were reported stolen from a Kenworth truck. Some of the items were found on a path at a nearby park. A WOMAN driving a silver 2005 Toyota Mark X was reported to have driven off without paying for $80.39 of 91 grade fuel from an Ōtorohanga service station. POLICE were called to an altercation between two men on Karaka St, Ōtorohanga at 6pm. A SLOW-moving vehicle was pulled over by police in Piopio after being observed travelling 67km/h in a 100km/h zone with a line of cars behind it. The driver was given a warning for being slow/inconsiderate. THE alarm was set off at a bar on Riverside Ln, Te Kūiti after a man was reported breaking in through a rear window at 6.10pm.
October 25 FOUR bottles of whiskey were stolen from the same bar on Riverside Ln, Te Kūiti between 12.45am-1am. Another male, believed to be different to the first, forced a window open to gain access. SHOPLIFTING was reported from a supermarket in Te Kūiti, where a couple is alleged to have paid for all of their items except for a $20 container of baby formula left in their trolley. SHOPLIFTING was reported at a Taumarunui business.
October 26 POLICE who were eventually able to pull over a driver who failed to stop for them, and issued the driver an infringement notice for excessive speed.
October 27 A KĀWHIA resident reported having $98,500 transferred out of their bank account without their consent. The bank was still investigating whether the funds could be returned when police were spoken to this week. TWO teenage students were confronted on Rora St, Te Kūiti between 7.15pm-8.30pm by another student with a knife. When one of their parents tried to speak to the student with the knife, he threatened to stab them. POLICE were called when stock was found on SH4 south of Taumarunui. A MAN with a warrant to arrest handed himself into Taumarunui police.
October 28 TAUMARUNUI police attending a reported burglary found the offender on the property and arrested them. A DRIVER who refused to undergo excess breath alcohol screening by Taumarunui police was forbidden to drive and summonsed to court.
October 29 A GREEN Yamaha Kodiak 450 quad bike was reported stolen from a farm on Puketawai Rd, Ōtorohanga between 9.30pm on October 28 and 2.30am on October 29. It was said to be worth $16,000. A RED 2006 Toyota Vitz stolen overnight from Duke St, Te Kūiti was located outside an address on Kowhai St, Hamilton. It had a broken quarter light window and damaged ignition. A PHONE, bank card and driver license were lost in Te Kūiti at about midday. The complainant later found the phone case on Taupiri St but the card was still missing. The card was used at a petrol station for a charge of $75. POLICE were notified of two people lost in the bush near Kakahi. They eventually made it out on their own. AN elderly lady locked out of her house in Taumarunui was assisted by police. POLICE could not locate anything out of the ordinary on Ngatai St, where they had been dispatched because of a reported disorder. A BURGLARY was reported on Leese St, Taumarunui.
October 30 A NISSAN Navara ute was reported stolen from Ward St, Taumarunui.
October 31 A LOG truck driver lost his load when his trailer tipped, discharging logs across the road. The driver had been travelling north on SH39 at about 6.30am when he lost control. Police said it was likely the driver had veered off the road prior to the accident. A STAFF member reported missing from a Taumarunui business showed up on their own accord. TAUMARUNUI police trespassed a man from a restaurant.
POLICE were called to 10 family harm episodes in Te Kūiti, four in Ōtorohanga, 13 in Taumarunui, one in Kāwhia and one in Benneydale between October 24 and 31.
