Help these holidays

WHETHER you are staying at home this holiday season, or you’ve come in to our district for a bit of recreation, there are always places whose hours are short or which are closed. These are some websites you need to keep an eye on if you need information. nzta.govt.nz – New Zealand Transport Agency is a great site if you want to plan any trips away. This will tell you the state of the roads, where roadworks or holdups might be, and any other important information from accidents to delays. Ph 0800 44 44 49. waitomo.govt.nz – there is a message service available for any queries. Urgent ones can be dealt with. Waitomo District Council also has a strong facebook presence. Ph 0800 932 4357. odc.govt.nz – Ōtorohanga District Council can also help with urgent calls. See advertisements for both councils as to opening and closing hours and transfer station opening times. Ph 07 873 4000. ruapehudc.govt.nz – the Ruapehu District Council has an after-hours service available. Ph 07 895 8188. waikatoregion.govt.nz – Waikato Regional Council stretches right down to Mōkau and across to the boundaries of the Bay of Plenty and part of Ruapehu.  If there are issues with the environment or coast, this is whom to go to. Ph 0800 800 402. Both Te Kūiti and Taumarunui Hospitals have emergency departments, both of which are supposed to be open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. However, in the case of Te Kūiti, it does not accept patients after 6pm at night and before 8am in the morning.
