Banking lament WE have been let down by BNZ yet again. Last week I needed to go to a branch of BNZ, I looked up their opening hours on the website I was directed to and Te Kuiti was open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until 3.30pm. I went on Wednesday to find a note on the door saying that from October 31, six weeks ago, they would only be opening Tuesday and Thursday. I complained to BNZ, and their reply was that they were aware that a number of customers had also been inconvenienced by the incorrect information on their website but they couldn’t do anything about it. People need to be aware that not only is the incorrect information on the website, but BNZ doesn’t care. A copy of the reply I received from them for your info. “Thank you for your message, and our apologies for the inconvenience. I can confirm a lot of customers have referred to google which does provide the incorrect banking days, which unfortunately BNZ cannot alter. If there is anything further BNZ can assist you with via message, please let us know.” A Berrigan Ōtorohanga

Misinformation? I NOTE that Barbara Kuriger has another letter of misinformationn in the paper on 15/12/2022. Her statement that the current government closed the oil refinery at Marsden point is, as she well knows, blatantly untrue. The refinery is a private company and the owners decided to close. To suggest the Government closed a private loss-making business is a stretch too far. It appears Mrs Kuriger and her party are campaigning on a litany of lies. First it was the health system and now it’s the oil refinery. National has allowed itself to be emboldened by the use of media to spread false and sometimes damaging information much like the anti-people in the Covid pandemic. They have continued to rubbish the NZ economy and only today it was revealed the economy grew by two percent which under the current situation was a massive result. National and Act with their continued attempts to blacken New Zealand at every turn is akin to sabotage as the recruiters who are trying to recruit health workers have found only a very small number of GPS coming to NZ even though they have instant residency. Not happy I AM amazed and appalled that Newsroom is the only news outlet that has chosen to share news about your MP Barbara Kuriger. It seems that only Newsroom chose to put in an OIA about allegations regarding her misuse of Parliament resources. Other media outlets choose not to report anything at all on this serious matter. Newsroom discovered that Ms Kuriger had sent more than 50 emails to MPI from her Parliamentary email account. These were sent over a period of time so could hardly be claimed to be a compulsive error of judgment as portrayed by Mr Luxon. Her son and husband were charged with animal cruelty after cattle were found to be in such a poor condition that several had to be euthanased. Yet, Ms Kuriger claimed that the attack on her family was politically motivated and even demanded the dismissal of an MPI employee. Her husband was not convicted but her son was found guilty in the courts. This sounds like bullying with an imbalance of power and a gross abuse of Ms Kuriger’s position as MP and shadow minister. Just imagine what might have eventuated had #nznationalparty won the last election. On the other hand, we have seen wall-to-wall coverage of Minister Mahuta who was exonerated of any wrongdoing. She declared conflicts of interest and played no part in decision-making processes when her well-qualified family run contracts. The contrast is stark. Personally, I don’t think that Ms Kuriger has any place in our Parliament and should be sacked for trying to influence a court case and decision. M de Kort Gisborne

 Editors reply: Mrs Kuriger has been quite open with her constituents about the saga behind the court case relating to her husband and son. As far as Newsroom is concerned, the King Country News isn’t in the habit of looking at other news outlets for its news content – and certainly not in using information it has not gathered itself.
