POLICE DESK December 5 SCRAP metal parts worth several hundreds of dollars were reported stolen from what police described as an insecure shed at a commercial property on Otewa Rd, Ōtorohanga, sometime between December 2 and 5. A LARGE roller door securing a courier company’s building on Progress Dr, Ōtorohanga, was forced open between December 3 and 5. POLICE arrested a 33-year-old man after a short foot chase through Kāwhia following an incident at a nearby holiday park. He was charged with two counts each of wilful damage and burglary, and possessing an offensive weapon and escaping police custody. THE window of a black Kia Sportage station wagon parked on Taharoa Rd overnight was smashed. The ignition was also damaged. A CRASH was caused on Taupiri St, Te Kūiti, when a Mitsubishi ASX failed to give way when turning right onto South End Loop Rd. The driver struck a northbound sedan and both drivers sustained minor injuries. A PETROL drive-off of $98.38 worth of 91 fuel was reported at a Te Kūiti service station. The car involved was a silver 2004 Toyota LX.
December 6 A RED Mazda Demio was reported stolen overnight from Ngarongo St, Te Kūiti. It was recovered the following day on Rangitoto Rd, Te Kūiti. FOUR people are alleged to have stolen the cash drawer from Subway Ōtorohanga at 1.45am. They smashed a glass door to gain entry and made a mess in the store. CASH and a “reasonable amount” of alcohol was stolen from a Waitomo restaurant at about 3am. FIFTY Friesian-cross heifers were reported missing from a property on Mairua Rd, Mangaotaki, between November 21 and December 6. A WHITE Suzuki 200DR farm bike and a rising plate meter was stolen from inside a cow shed on SH3, Te Kūiti. TAUMARUNUI police summonsed a man to court for possession of cannabis. POLICE attended a disorder on Taupō Rd, Taumarunui. TAUMARUNUI police attended a minor assault on a male.
December 8 A TANK of diesel, a truck battery and tools were reported stolen from a commercial address on Otewa Rd, Ōtorohanga. A PERSON reported having their phone and wallet stolen from a Te Kūiti marae between December 1 and 8. Seven payments were found to have been made from the card after it was taken. POLICE were called when items were thrown onto the roof of a house on Taupō Rd, Taumarunui.
December 9 TWO men have been arrested as the result of search warrants executed by police at addresses on Kāwhia and Arapuni roads. Police recovered stolen property including a quad bike, a silver Subaru vehicle, a ute, a trailer, three water pumps, various vehicle parts and power tools. Also recovered during the operation were cannabis seedlings and ammunition. A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with burglary, the theft of two cars and possessing instruments for burglary. Another man, aged 50, was charged with two counts of burglary. SMALL pigs running across the road caused a nose-to-tail crash on SH3 near Awakino Gorge when traffic slowed. A MAN was injured when the driver of another vehicle deliberately drove into him on Hakiaha St, Taumarunui. Police say the offender is known to them but as at Tuesday afternoon he was yet to be apprehended.
December 10 POLICE are investigating the circumstances of a structure fire on Rangitahi St, Ōtorohanga, at 8.55am. What police described as a rudimentary building is thought likely to have been lived in, but no one is believed to have been inside at the time of the fire. Early enquiries suggest the fire was deliberately lit. A TOYOTA Hilux ute is reported to have crashed through a fence on Moke St, Kāwhia at 10pm. THE front of a vehicle attempting to turn into Riverside Ln in Te Kūiti was crashed into by another vehicle leaving the lane. The second car, described as a black Ford or Holden, did not stop. A 1996 Toyota Corolla parked on Ward St, Te Kūiti, was reported to have been damaged overnight by another vehicle. SIX cows on the road on Miro St, Taumarunui, were returned to their paddock. A PETROL drive-off was reported in Taumarunui, but the petrol was later paid for. POLICE attended a disorder on New Rd, Taumarunui.
December 11 A MAN known to police trespassed at a residential Taumarunui address. TAUMARUNUI police were called when threats were made to harm a male. A WOMAN was trespassed from a residential address by Taumarunui police.
December 12 A 1996 Ford Freda station wagon and chemical cleaning products were stolen from an address on Waitete Rd, Te Kūiti. TAUMARUNUI police assisted with welfare checks during two separate animal incidents. POLICE attended a disorder on Makere St, Taumarunui.
POLICE were called to 14 family harm incidents in Taumarunui, seven in Ōtorohanga and six in Te Kūiti between December 5 and 12.
CALL OUTS ŌTOROHANGA December 8 A UTE rolled on Ouruwhero Rd, Ōtorohanga at 11.45am. Firefighters were called to the scene, but no major injuries were sustained. December 10 FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house fire on Rangitahi St, Ōtorohanga at 8.54am. While responding to the fire, they were called at 9.28am to a medical incident at the other end of the street.
TE KŪITI December 5 A CREW was called to control traffic and sweep glass off the road at 12.43pm when two cars crashed at the corner of Taupiri St and South End Loop in Te Kūiti. December 6 FIREFIGHTERS assisted those from Piopio brigade with performing CPR on a patient on SH3, north of Piopio at 3.37pm. December 7 AN alarm faulted at Te Wharekura o Maniapoto in Oparure at 9.12am. The Otorohanga Brigade were called to assist but were turned back at Hangatiki. FIREFIGHTERS responded to a medical call on Hospital Rd, Te Kūiti at 2.20pm. December 8 A FIRE crew was called to a medical event at BP service station in Te Kūiti at 8.48am. PIOPIO and Te Kūiti brigades were called to a compressor fire at a vector pump station in the Piopio area.
KĀWHIA December 5 FIREFIGHTERS responded to an emergency medical call in Oparau at 9.29am. December 8 THE brigade assisted Raglan firefighters with extinguishing a grass fire on Ruapuke Beach Rd, Ruapuke at 3.07pm. Water tankers were required from Te Akau and Ngaruawahia. December 10 A CREW was called to a vehicle crash on Waiwera St, Kāwhia at 10.35pm.
