December 27

WEAPONS were stolen from a garage on Rimu St, Te Kūiti overnight. The items included a British Army machete, an M16 bayonet, an M5 bayonet in used condition and a Special Forces survival knife. The M16 bayonet was recovered at another burglary scene.

ARRANGEMENTS were made with an 18-year-old male to repay $4.80 to a Te Kūiti dairy owner for stealing a pie.

December 29

MORE than $1000 worth of gear was reported stolen from a 2006 green Nissan Tiida parked overnight on Kāwhia Harbour Rd, Kāwhia. A Kaiwaka branded purple raincoat worth $570, over trousers worth $280, Reebok shoes, jumper leads and a bluetooth transmitter were stolen.

A MAN removed several security cameras stored at Hauturu School at about 6.20pm.

December 31

THE driver of a ute seen by police doing burnouts at the corner of Turongo and Te Kawa streets was charged for the activity. The 1983 white Ford Falcon was impounded and the driver is due to appear in Te Kūiti District Court on a charge of operating a vehicle causing sustained loss of traction.

POLICE received a complaint of a vehicle doing donuts in Hinerangi St, Te Kūiti at 4am.

January 1

A SILVER 2008 Nissan Dualis was reported stolen from a driveway on Mangaokewa Rd, Benneydale between December 29 and January 1.

A TE Kūiti woman reported to police she had been persuaded to purchase $7000 worth of iTunes vouchers for a man online. She had been told she would receive $100,000 in return.

January 2

AMMUNITION and a spotting scope were reported stolen from a car parked on Mangarino St, Te Kūiti overnight. The white 2007 Toyota Corolla had its quarter light smashed and ignition barrel damaged in the burglary. Petrol was also siphoned from the tank.

POLICE received a report of a 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer being broken into on Taupiri St, Te Kūiti at about 3.30pm. The ignition was damaged but nothing was stolen.

AN Aotea resident reported losing $620 in unauthorised credit card transactions. The card was used to purchase retail goods online.

January 3

A VISITOR to a Department of Conservation reserve on Tata Rd, Aria reported returning to his parked ute to find a four wheeler on the back of it had been stolen. The quad bike was described as a 2007 Vinson 500 in tidy condition. It was red with galvanised bull bars and a ply box.

January 5

A MAN made himself at home in an op shop on Taui St, Kāwhia for a couple of nights, sleeping on a couch and urinating in one of the rooms. Staff members arrived at about 9.30am on January 5 and observed a male leaving in a black vehicle. They then found the sliding door had been forced open and multiple items had been moved.

January 6

A WHITE 2021 Suzuki DR200 was reported stolen from a rural address on Mangawhero Rd, Wharepuhunga overnight. The bike has not yet been found.

POLICE received a report that a car parked on McKenzie Ave, Ōtorohanga sustained minor damage when it was crashed into at about 1am.

January 7

AN unknown amount of diesel was siphoned from a Kenworth truck parked at a commercial address on Otewa Rd, Ōtorohanga. Two offenders are believed to have been involved.

January 8

A FARMER chased a ute into and around Ōtorohanga township after a quad bike was stolen from an Ōtorohanga Rd property.

The farmer was woken at 1.30am to the sound of the quad bike being started and saw it leaving alongside a flat deck ute.

The vehicles were chased by the farmer in a farm vehicle into town and police say there was a collision between the farm vehicle and ute.

The quad bike eventually overturned near Te Kawa and Haerehuka streets, at which point the owner took back possession of their quad bike.

Police enquiries are continuing into the incident.

A NISSAN Navara stolen from Queen St in Te Kūiti was recovered from Phillips Ave, Ōtorohanga.

GRAFFITI was reported on a woolshed on SH3, Te Kūiti.

A SILVER 2010 Jeep Patriot was reported stolen between 2 and 3am from a marae on Ormsby Rd south of Pirongia.

ALL the windows and mirrors on a car were smashed overnight. The white 2015 Subaru Impreza was parked on Wilsons Rd, Piopio and also sustained a ding on a door.

POLICE were called to 18 family harm episodes in Te Kūiti, 13 in Ōtorohanga, six in Kāwhia, two in Piopio and one in Benneydale between December 25 and January 9.
