Important to report positive test
As we all know, in early December Covid-19 ramped up again in the North King Country (seemingly country-wide also).
I attended a gathering before Christmas and tested positive for Covid a few days later and soon came to realise (after talking to several Covid-positive friends) that it is probably timely to remind people how important it is to report their positive Covid test results.
Firstly, so our health department can keep track of all cases across the country and so people can receive the help and support on offer.
I Googled “How to report a Covid test”, was too ill to follow all the prompts so just phoned the 0800 222 478 registration number.
All that was needed – name, address, date of birth, my NHI number (which can be obtained from your medical centre) and answer a few questions.
By doing this I received an immediate call from my doctor and daily follow-up calls from my medical centre/Waikato DHB/local Here to Help U Putiki Hub.
My medical centre encouraged me to contact my friends and give them this information.
Please let people know this info through our excellent paper.
Thank you.

Money better spent on free public transport
Regarding recent RNZ news that the Government proposes spending over a billion dollars with a United States firm to provide a nationwide integrated passenger plastic card to replace HOP/Bee systems on public transport.
To name just a few, lest we forget, the past IT failures include iSYS (police), Novapay (teachers paysheets) and the $15 million Inland Revenue write-off on such schemes that were either abandoned or overran costs (Novapay), failing to deliver on their promoters’ promises and costing taxpayers even more wasted funds.
At the proposed billion-dollar fee, surely the money would be better spent making public buses and trains (even ferries) free.
Thus no $5000 a pop bus ticketing tag-on/tag-off machines on board for drivers to navigate as well as driving a bus in difficult road/passenger conditions.
No office back-up with overpaid executives, rather a real push to get folk out of their cars and thus reduce pollution and congestion particularly in major centres.
