Ram raid at Rusty Nail TAUMARUNUI police have begun a forensic investigation following a ram raid on the Rusty Nail Tavern in Hakiaha St, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Senior Constable Peter Marks said Taumarunui police were reviewing footage from cameras set up in Hakiaha St and on the tavern premises and were seeking information from the public.
The front doors at the premises were badly damaged and windows smashed after a car earlier taken from the Manunui Club was driven into the tavern. A small ATM was removed from the premises.
Peter said the last ram raid in town was on the police station building, more than six years ago.

Car stolen after floods WHEN floodwaters rose in Te Kūiti at the end of last month, some residents living in low-lying areas had to evacuate their homes. For a Te Kumi Rd resident, the decision to evacuate gave thieves the opportunity to steal their vehicle. Police are investigating the circumstances around a red 2002 Ford Falcon ute being stolen from the flood-affected property overnight on January 27-28. The vehicle has not yet been found.
Aucklander arrested for Te Kūiti offending AN Auckland woman has been arrested and charged with stealing number plates in two separate incidents in Te Kūiti. One occurred between January 28 and 31 at a commercial address on Waitete Rd, Te Kūiti. Police were called when a station wagon parked at the address was found to have had its number plates removed. On January 30, a number plate was also stolen from a vehicle parked in the New World Te Kūiti car park between 12.30pm and 9pm. An Auckland woman was arrested on February 2 and charged with the theft of the number plates. She was remanded in custody to appear in Manukau District Court in April.
Police investigating burglary POLICE are investigating the theft of eight motorbikes and a ute from Wharepuhunga at the end of last month. The motorbikes stolen from a property on Ngaroma Rd overnight on January 30 include a black Suzuki, a 1966 Triumph Thunderbird, a 50cc Honda, two 50cc Suzukis, an 80cc Suzuki, a 175cc Yamaha and a 250cc BSA. The black Suzuki was recovered by police in Te Awamutu and the owner found the Triumph Thunderbird. Also stolen was a black 2003 Mitsubishi Triton ute, and a leather jacket, helmet and gloves worth $1200. Various other items, including Stihl chains, a hedge trimmer, a blower and Jansen-branded amplifiers were reported missing too.
