By election voting closes tomorrow VOTING in the Kāwhia Community Board by election has been extended until tomorrow because of postal network disruptions caused by Cyclone Gabrielle.
It is now too late to return voting papers by mail, but people can take their completed voting papers to the Ōtorohanga District Council office at 17 Maniapoto St, Ōtorohanga and place them in the ballot box if the office is open, or in the after-hours box.
Anyone living in the Kāwhia subdivision area of the Kāwhia Community Board and who has not received a voter pack for this by-election should contact the council on 0800 734 000.
Voting closes at noon on Friday.
One dead in Piopio crash A MOTORBIKE rider lost his life in a crash south of Piopio on Sunday night.
The 57-year-old man was travelling north on his 2013 Victory Cross Country road bike when he crossed the centreline and collided with a blue sedan travelling in the opposite direction.
The man was dead when emergency services arrived at the scene.
