February 15 POLICE arrested a 34-year-old Whakatāne man after he allegedly threatened people with a knife and damaged five cars and two doors at a commercial premises on Awakino Rd, Te Kūiti at 10.45pm.

The man is alleged to have drunkenly smashed the windows of four vehicles parked at the property with bricks and outdoor furniture and smashed the windscreen of a fifth vehicle parked down the road.

He was charged with seven counts of intentional damage for the cars and windows, possession of an offensive weapon and threatening to do grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear in Te Kūiti District Court next month.

DAMAGE was reported to a door at a residential Ōtorohanga address overnight. It is not believed the Phillips Ave home was entered and nothing was reported stolen.

NO injuries were sustained in a crash at Ōwhango, where a vehicle crashed into a creek.

TAUMARUNUI police arrested three men who were found in a yard taking vehicle parts.

February 16

THE police crimes investigation bureau is investigating an incident on Esplanade, Te Kūiti where five people arrived at 8pm to a property armed with weapons and entered the home, which was occupied by two people.

One of the people who entered the property was stabbed by an occupant and plates were thrown at them.

February 17

SWEETCORN was reported stolen from a crop on Kio Kio Station Rd, Ōtorohanga overnight. A grey pillowcase with corn cobs in it was left behind.

POLICE are investigating the reported theft of a trailer from a commercial address on Phillips Ave, Ōtorohanga. The silver 2012 Gibbons trailer had rough sawn timber planks of differing lengths and a large number of Waratah fencing standards in it.

A MAN was reported to have been sleeping in a property that wasn’t his in Oparau.

He is believed to have gotten into the cabin on Moerangi Rd through an insecure window.

THOUSANDS of dollars’ worth of Dewalt and Makita power tools were reported stolen from a Te Kūiti hardware store.

A dark grey Volkswagen Passat is reported to have arrived at the store at about 3.50am and entry was forced through the front door.

February 18

TWO people wearing hoodies and face masks were seen stealing a 2012 grey Mazda Demio from Hospital Rd, Te Kūiti at about 6pm.

The car was located the next day on Edward St, Te Kūiti.

A WINDOW was smashed, and clothing items were stolen from a Taumarunui business.

February 19

A MOTORBIKE rider was found dead at the scene of a fatal crash on SH3, Piopio at 5.10pm.

A SILVER 2015 Toyota Aqua was reported stolen overnight from an address on Karaka Rd, Ōtorohanga. Inside the vehicle were power tools, smart modems and antennae.

AN unlocked shed was entered on Te Kūiti Rd, Te Kūiti sometime between February 15 and 19, and a child’s Forza 110 motorcycle was taken. The bike was orange, black and white in colour.

ELECTRIC sanders, saws and a screw gun were reported stolen from a house on Mangarino St, Te Kūiti.

POLICE were called to 12 family harm incidents in Taumarunui, six in Te Kūiti and three in Ōtorohanga between February 14 and 20.
