FOLLOWING a 10-week season the Te Kūiti Badminton Club’s annual Summer League has concluded with the Te Kūiti team victorious.
Club member Caroline (Flossy) Marnoch said eight teams had contested the league competition, held on the four courts of the Waitomo Sports Stadium on King St in Te Kūiti.
Taking part in the Monday night games were players from Te Kūiti, Ōtorohanga, Waitomo, Piopio and even as far afield as Pirongia.
As well as competitive badminton, the club organised more socially orientated couples’ games, and these were open to anyone who came along, Flossy said.
Couples’ games were held from 7pm on Monday nights, with only a nominal fee charged to those taking part.
“These games are events where the accent is more on having fun more than serious play.
“They can be quite an enjoyable and provide a very affordable introduction to the sport of badminton.
“If required we can even provide newcomers with badminton racquets to use,” Flossy said.
