Fatal crash investigated

THE police serious crash unit is investigating the circumstances of a fatal crash, which saw a man drive to a friend’s house for help, but not survive the trip to hospital.

Police believe the man was driving on Pukerimu Rd on March 9 when he crashed into a structure off the roadside. He then drove himself to a friend’s house, where the friend found him and took him to Te Kūiti Hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Attempts by hospital staff to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The death has been referred to the coroner.
