March 14

TWO lambs were reported to have been butchered on a farm in Wharepūhunga. Initial police enquiries indicate the lambs were shot on the property and the entrails were left behind. The farmer reported that the incident likely occurred between March 10 and 14.

POLICE detained a woman for a mental health assessment after a public disorder in the retail area of Ōtorohanga.

ABOUT $3000 worth of tools were reported stolen from a shed on Awatane Rd, Ōtorohanga overnight.

KITCHEN items including a microwave, toaster, jug and a vacuum cleaner were reported stolen from a holiday home in Kāwhia between February 21 and March 14.

A CAR was reported stolen from Nettie St, Te Kūiti between 5.30pm and 9.15pm. A child’s car seat, work equipment and the victim’s personal documents were in the car when it was stolen.

March 15

AN overtaking manoeuvre ended in pieces for a Toyota Camry travelling on SH4 in Mapiu at 6.20pm. The Camry attempted to overtake in a passing lane, but hit loose metal, lost control and crashed through a deer fence.

THE owner of an industrial premises on Mangaokewa Rd, Te Kūiti, found 800L of diesel had been siphoned from several agricultural vehicles overnight.

STIHL-branded tools – a chainsaw and weedeater – were reported stolen from a shed on Lees Block Rd, Te Kūiti.

TAUMARUNUI police received a report about a male making inappropriate comments in public.

A FEMALE driver was caught drink driving in Taumarunui.

March 16

A KAYAKER in Aotea returned to the boat ramp to find his trolley, used to transport the kayak from the bach to the water and back again, had been stolen. The kayaker was on the water for about an hour from 4.30pm.

A WHITE caravan, tools, clothing, a step ladder and a compact disc were reported stolen in a burglary on Lerman Rd, Otewa, between March 13 and 16.

POLICE found a driver doing burnouts on Cherry Gr, Taumarunui, had been drink driving.

A DRIVER fell asleep and crashed through a fence in the early hours of the morning in Taumarunui.

POLICE attended a minor crash on Miriama St, Taumarunui.

March 17

THE driver of a ute was reported to have taken metal from beside the railway at Waimiha.

March 18

TAUMARUNUI’S water treatment plant on Echolands Rd was burgled, with a 1000L water tank reported stolen.

POLICE returned two toddlers found on Lairdvale Rd, Taumarunui, to their home address.

TAUMARUNUI police found a man with a zero-alcohol driver’s licence to be driving under the influence.

March 19

A TE KŪITI resident fell victim to an online scam, sparked by the resident posting tyres for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The online scammer contacted the victim and expressed an interest in purchasing the tyres, and after some discussion the victim was offered the opportunity to “invest” in a company. The victim paid $400, but the investment has not come to anything.

POLICE called an ambulance for a “highly intoxicated” male found on Miriama St, Taumarunui.

March 20

TWO batteries and working lights were reported stolen from an excavator at a worksite on Mangaokewa Rd, Te Kūiti, between March 18 and 20.

POLICE were called to five family harm episodes in each of Ōtorohanga, Te Kūiti and Taumarunui between March 14 and 21.
