TAUMARUNUI police were called when goods for sale on Facebook turned out to be a scam.
March 22
SEVERAL shots were fired at a Te Kūiti property by a man wielding a BB gun. The man is reported to have spoken to the occupant of the address at about 7pm before drawing the airsoft pistol. Police are investigating the incident.
March 23
AN attempt was made to burgle a flood-damaged property on Duke St, Te Kūiti overnight. The property owner discovered an attempt was made to force open the garage door, but there was no evidence entry was gained and no property was stolen.
POLICE are investigating an incident at a Te Kūiti petrol station where a person fuelling their car was approached by an unknown woman. The woman opened the passenger door and took $200 in cash and a car charger. She also took a portable power bank charger and threw it on the ground, damaging it.
A RURAL Ōtorohanga resident fell victim to a Facebook marketplace scam, in which they paid a $901 deposit for a shipping container listed for $3000. There was no further contact after the deposit was paid.
March 24
BB pistols and ammunition were reported stolen from a shop on Rora St, Te Kūiti at about 10pm. Glass doors and two display cabinets were damaged in the burglary.
A MAN was taken to hospital with facial injuries after an alleged assault on Merrin Ave, Ōtorohanga at 2.25am.
A SABEN-branded handbag valued at $500, containing sunglasses, a necklace and prescription sunglasses worth $1700, were reported stolen from a car parked outside Arohena School.
THE number plate was stolen from a Nissan Navara parked at the corner of Kāwhia and Aotea roads, Kāwhia at about 2pm.
TAUMARUNUI police transported a man to hospital for a mental health assessment following a family harm episode.
A LAPTOP was reported to have been stolen from a vehicle parked at National Park near Taumarunui.
March 25
A YOUNG woman was arrested by police after a public disorder on Rora St, Te Kūiti where she is alleged to have attempted to run over a man in her car at about 1pm. The 19-year-old woman was charged with assault with a weapon and dangerous driving.
A PIG hunter who left the bush after hearing what sounded like a car crash found significant damage to his own car, which was parked on Waitanguru Rd, Waitanguru. The 2015 Ford Ranger was parked on the road from 8-11.30am and sustained damage to both doors on the driver’s side.
THE rear windscreen of a white Nissan Navara parked on Te Waitere Rd, Kāwhia was reported to have been smashed with a rock at about 9.20pm.
March 26
SEVERAL people reported being attacked by a 23-year-old man wielding a broken beer bottle at a birthday party on Ōtorohanga. Police were called at about 2am to the 21st birthday party on Haerehuka St, where they arrested the young man. He was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of assaulting a person with a weapon, three counts of threatening to kill, possession of a weapon and three counts of intentional damage.
THE driver of a Honda Accord which flipped on Waitomo Valley Rd, Waitomo escaped without injury. The car was travelling north when the driver failed to take a corner and drove through a ditch, into a bank and flipped onto its roof. The driver was warned by police for careless driving.
A MAN involved in a family harm episode was arrested by Taumarunui police for breaching a protection order.
AN elderly Taumarunui person reported having balls of clay thrown at their windows.
March 27
SEVERE damage was caused to a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander that hit a cow in the very early hours of the morning, travelling north of Ōtorohanga on SH3. The cow is reported to have got up and walked away after the incident.
TWO truck batteries were stolen overnight from trucks parked at an address on Progress Dr, Ōtorohanga.
PARAMEDICS tended to a motorbike rider who rear-ended a van that had stopped on Maniapoto St, Ōtorohanga for a pedestrian crossing.
POLICE were called to 19 family harm episodes in Taumarunui, two in Ōtorohanga, three in Te Kūiti and three in Kāwhia between March 21 and 28.
