Swim sports success

MORE than 150 students from across the Waitomo District kicked, splashed and glided their way to success at a combined school swimming sports on Friday.

Spirits were high with lots of voluntary support despite a hammering of rain putting a dampener on those who hadn’t planned to get soaked.

Those participating included Te Kūiti Primary, Centennial Park School, Pukenui School, St Joseph’s Catholic School, Rangitoto School, Waitomo Caves School, Te Wharekura o Maniapoto, Piopio Primary and College, and some home-schooled students.

This was the first year back for the event after a Covid-enforced break last year, with parents, teachers and high school students volunteering their time to make it a success.

The event is run by Te Kūiti Swimming Club at the Waitomo District Aquatic Centre.

Swimmers who placed in the top three in their respective heats received ribbons on the day, and those who were the top three in the overall events will receive certificates.

The swimming club ran a barbecue fundraiser for lunch.
