Tunes of Waikato aims to assist young bands such as Smokes Paprika, which won the national finals at Smokefree Rockquest last year.
The call has gone out for young Waikato musicians to audition for the Tunes of Waikato competition.
Waikato Rocks manager Logan Nathan has asked any prospective bands from the King Country to consider booking an audition in Hamilton on April 29.
Six youth music groups from the Waikato will be selected from auditions to be held from 10am onward at the Zeal Youth Organisation Venue, at No 8 Ward St, Hamilton Central.
“The selected six contestants – whether groups, solo acts or duos – would get to record two of their original songs in a reputed studio. They will also be entitled to attend five mentoring sessions and perform at 10 concerts, all for free,” Logan said.
The competition aims to assist promising young musicians aged 13 to 19 years, with the selection made on a points system by four established people from the Waikato Music community.
Waikato Rocks Trust has been organising youth music events since 2016.
Logan said the organisation aimed to showcase young talent at schools, education centres, events and concerts.
It also organised two events such as Hamilton’s Christmas at the Lake and The Raglan Music and Dance Fest.
