Perfect conditions at Kāwhia for a parade

Some 200-plus locals and visitors attended the Kāwhia Anzac Parade which was held in near perfect conditions.

Kāwhia Community Board chairman Geoff Good was MC for the proceedings.

The popular Te Awamutu Pipe Band led the parade, starting at the Community Hall, marching along Jervois Street, before halting before the cenotaph. Following an address from mayor Max Baxter and a prayer from Dr John Burton, numerous wreaths were laid at the cenotaph.

The Anzac Ode was given in English by Kāwhia councillor Kit Jeffries and in te reo Māori by Karen Bishop, who also provided the opening and closing karakia.

Parade organiser Theresa Duke was delighted with the attendance. Food and refreshments were enjoyed afterwards at the Kāwhia Hotel.
