March 28

THE engine of a tractor parked at a rural property on Puketarata Rd, Ōtorohanga between March 14 and 28 was filled with about 20L of oil, resulting in more than $1000 of reported damage so far.

POLICE arrested and charged a 55-year-old man in Ōtorohanga with possessing methamphetamine and utensils. He was remanded in custody to appear in Hamilton District Court this week.

TAUMARUNUI police trespassed a male from a residential address.

March 29

AN Ōtorohanga resident was blackmailed after exchanging intimate photos with a female social media profile. The victim was threatened that if they did not meet at a commercial premises in Hamilton with $500 their images would be shared. Police warn it is not safe to assume everyone online is who they say they are, and as soon as you send an intimate photo online you have no control over it.

POLICE received a report of a person tagging the side of a commercial property on Rora St, Te Kūiti at about 1pm. The person responsible was witnessed driving off in a blue Holden Cruze car.

A MAN was arrested for trying to smash a window at Taumarunui police station.

TAUMARUNUI police making enquiries at a property located and seized cannabis plants.

THREE drivers were found to be over the legal alcohol limit in Taumarunui.

March 30

AN Ōtorohanga resident reported having $600 stolen from their bank account after falling victim to a text message scam. A text was sent to the victim to say a parcel could not be delivered to them. The victim tapped on a link in the message and paid $5 under the impression the payment was needed to organise redelivery.

A WINDOW was smashed on a red Honda Fit parked on Bayne St, Te Kūiti overnight. A red Nissan Pulsar parked on the same street also had a window smashed the same night. There were signs it was entered and searched.

POLICE were called about a man riding a dirt bike poorly on Ailsa St, Te Kūiti at about 9.30am, narrowly avoiding a crash with another vehicle.

A FEMALE was trespassed from a Taupō Rd, Taumarunui address.

March 31

TWO women were arrested in a neighbourly dispute which resulted in them allegedly throwing stones at a vehicle after yelling abusive language towards another dwelling on their road. Police were called to Mangaorongo Rd, Ōtorohanga at about 7.50pm and arrested the 25-year-old and 60-year-old women. They were charged with offensive behaviour likely to cause injury, acting threateningly, possessing an offensive weapon and wilful damage. They are due to appear in Te Kūiti District Court this week.

A GREY 1997 Mazda Familia was reported stolen at about 6am from Hikurangi Rd, Honikiwi.

ABOUT $4000 worth of tools including a chainsaw, hammer, grinder and reciprocating saw, and a gas bottle, were reported stolen from a vehicle on Bayne St, Te Kūiti overnight.

TWO young men have been charged with unlawful hunting after a deer was killed and a farm owner’s vehicle was rammed on a property on Hauturu Rd, Waitomo District. The 21-year-olds from Taupō are due to appear in Te Kūiti District Court this week. A 17-year-old boy who is alleged to have been with them has been referred to youth aid.

POLICE are investigating the theft of a red Suzuki motorcycle from an address on Reu St, Taumarunui.

April 1

MORE than $10,000 worth of household items and a 2006 Toyota Estima were reported stolen from Rangipare St, Ōtorohanga. The household goods included kitchen appliances, headphones, laptops, a Casio keyboard and a PlayStation 4.

THE driver of a vehicle that crashed on Ongarue Back Rd was lucky to sustain only moderate injuries when his vehicle left the road, crashing into trees where a branch penetrated the cabin on the driver’s side.

IT is believed four males and one female were involved in a fire being lit at the back of a school on Seddon St, Te Kūiti.

A TE Kūiti resident discovered their spare bank card had been stolen when their Eftpos card declined during a transaction. The stolen card had been used several times at liquor shops and petrol stations, to purchase $230 worth of goods.

AN Eftpos card left in a Te Kūiti shop between 2-3.30pm was used to purchase $607 worth of goods from service stations, alcohol shops and a dairy.

April 2

A TOYOTA Hilux parked on Te Anga Rd, towards the coast, after a crash was significantly damaged while unattended between 12am and 9.30am. The ute owner returned to the vehicle to find it was unlocked, its windows were smashed and all four tyres had been stolen.

THE side door to a commercial address on Te Kanawa St, Ōtorohanga was reported to have been damaged. No items were reported stolen.

A VEHICLE was reported stolen in Taumarunui, then later located with a female driver.

April 3

PADLOCKS were cut at a water treatment plant on Phillips Ave, Ōtorohanga between March 31 and April 3. It is unclear if anything was stolen.

AN Ōtorohanga shopper’s car was stolen from where it was parked on Maniapoto St.

POLICE were called to a car crash where a Ford Escape backing out of a carpark hit the rear of a truck travelling on the corner of Ranfurly St and Cowley Ln. No injuries resulted from the crash.

A WINDOW was reported to have been smashed at a residential address on Phillips Ave, Ōtorohanga a short time after a civil dispute regarding the repair of a lawnmower.

POLICE were called to nine family harm episodes in Taumarunui, three in Te Kūiti, four in Ōtorohanga and two in Piopio between March 28 and April 3.
