Respectable crowds turned out on Saturday morning for two King Country commemorations of the King’s Coronation, marked by ceremonial tree plantings.
The morning started at Windsor Park in Ōtorohanga at 10am, where three Ballerina apple trees were planted.
Mayor Max Baxter and locals Pera Macdonald and Bill Millar each put a tree in the ground.
The ceremony was a short affair, with a speech from Max and the group sharing in karakia, singing the national anthem and a closing prayer.
Ngāti Rora led events at Redwood Park in Te Kūiti from 11am.
Speeches were given by Waitomo deputy mayor Allan Goddard and Raniera Winikerei.
A kōwhai tree was planted next to the park’s slide, with a plaque provided by the Department of Internal Affairs attached to local limestone and unveiled at the same time.
