BREAKING: police responding to bank robbery

Armed police are responding to an incident in Te Kūiti where shots are said to have been fired in a bank robbery.

Witnesses say ANZ’s Te Kūiti branch was robbed at about 12pm today, with the offenders making off with cash.

One person says he was shot at, but is unharmed. The shot missed.

Multiple witnesses have described hearing a ‘pop’ sound or similar to a car backfiring.

Police are understood to be searching for the culprits. A black helicopter is flying over Te Kūiti.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery and saw something which could assist police enquiries is asked to contact police and quote event number P054661846.
