Call outs

The Ōtorohanga Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out after a utility vehicle collided with a tree, bringing the tree down, in Te Kawa West Rd, Ōtorohanga, at 4.45pm on July 19.

The driver, who was the sole occupant, was trapped but could not be immediately removed. Because the crash brought down power wires, the brigade had to wait about 20 minutes for a team from Waipā Networks to arrive and cut off the power.

When this was done, firefighters used cutting equipment to free the driver, who was handed over to ambulance staff.

The Piopio Brigade was called out at about 3.30pm yesterday following a head-on collision at Hannah’s Corner, about 27km south of Piopio on SH3. It is thought one vehicle crossed the centreline.

Occupants of the vehicles – two in one vehicle and one in the other – were uninjured.

The Te Kūiti brigade was called out but turned around before attending.
