Two from three for Ōtorohanga

It was a reasonably successful weekend for the three Ōtorohanga men’s football teams.

In the Waikato Bay of Plenty League One campaign, they remained top of the table with a hard fought 2-1 away victory against Cambridge FC.

The victory sees them remain one point clear of Tauranga City, who are second, however, they still have to play each other as their most recent clash was postponed due to wet weather.

Ōtorohanga started well against Cambridge, playing positive football and creating some good opportunities, however, it took until the 31st minute for them to score with skipper Jamie Walker finding the back of the net.

Ōtorohanga continued to dominate the clash but were struggling to finish off their opportunities.

Trent Maguire made the most of his chance in the 82nd minute to find the net and put the Ōtorohanga Bulk Lines’ side in a good spot at 2-0 ahead.

The home side Cambridge scored in the 90th minute of play, setting up for an exciting period of added time, however, the staunch Ōtorohanga defence held firm and captured the team a crucial three points.

Late callup Charlie Telfer was superb in goal after answering an SOS in the lead up to the contest.

Skipper Walker continues to shine week-in, week-out, as does Dallas Maguire.

The Bailey Ingham third division side, who play in a purely Waikato competition, found it difficult against West Ham United and lost 3-0 having fallen to them twice already this season.

Ōtorohanga showed plenty of promise throughout the match but were unable to find the back of the net.

Following the defeat, Ōtorohanga now sit fifth in what is a tightly congested top half of the table.

Much like their fellow clubmates, the KiwiTown Electrical division 4 side are flying high on the top of the table with another impressive victory.

Ōtorohanga scored nine goals in their 9-2 hammering of Cambridge FC’s division 4 team.

Shaun Beattie was in red-hot form, hammering home an impressive hat-trick, while Joe Cammock and Aaron Thompson also had their radars firing, bagging two each.

Dan Hopping and Glenn Turner added to the impressive win.

Due to wet weather and trying to keep the Domain in a good condition, the division 4 side played at Ōtorohanga College.

In their 10 games so far, the division 4 team have scored an impressive 51 goals and conceded 11.

This weekend, the Ōtorohanga WaiBOP League One side welcome third placed Claudelands Rovers to the Domain in what will be an exciting battle.

Ōtorohanga’s division 3 team are also at home and face a Claudelands side as well, while the division 4 team face a trip to Tokoroa to continue their unbeaten run.
