Jobs programme changes

The Mayors Task Force For Jobs programme has undergone changes nationally and at Ōtorohanga.

The Ōtorohanga District Development Board has ceased delivery of MTFJ across the district at the end of June.

It is now being run by ArkTalent Ltd, which will deliver the programme under the Ōtorohanga Employment Hub brand to ensure continued programme recognition, reputation and continuity.

MTFJ has confirmed council’s funding for the programme for 2023-23 as $325,000, seeking 38 placement outcomes.

In her report to the council, project navigator Elle Freestone said the employment hub continued supporting locals that were in need of assistance and connecting clients with further support services.

Strong working relationships were maintained with local employers, to meet business needs and deliver sustainable employment outcomes across the community.

From November 2020, the MTFJ programme in Ōtorohanga has seen over 260 locals placed into employment and approximately $1.7 million in funding delivered into the community.

In May, MTFJ in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development announced the programme would receive multi-year funding, securing its delivery through to 2025.

While the funding has been secured for two consecutive years, the ministry reduced the total amount from $14 million to $10 million nationally for 2023-24 and $8 million for 2024-25.
