Clean sweep for Turaki

Turaki Primary School enjoys a game of rip rugby.

The primary school took part in a tournament at the Taumarunui Domain recently and came out triumphant in all divisions.

Twenty-eight teams took part across four divisions: year 5 and 6 boys; year 5 and 6 girls; year 7 and 8 girls; and year 7 and 8 boys.

Skill, teamwork and positivity helped the Turaki teams reign supreme on the field, defeating opposition from throughout Taumarunui.

Principal Kyra Leatuafi said they had a fantastic day out and represented the school with pride.

“The students had a great day … While competitiveness and winning is encouraged at Turaki School, of utmost importance for all teams is students displaying our aroha school values on and off the field.

“We are very proud of how all teams representing on the day ensured that they displayed these values.

“The majority of our students have played rippa rugby before, however, the split girls’ and boys’ teams was new this year.

“A big thank you to the coaches of the team who dedicated time to taking regular practises in preparation for the tournament, and to the students who gave up their time to attend practices.

“Winning all grades is a great achievement, and we look forward to competing at King Country tournament
