MEMBERS of a team from Te Kūiti who pitched in to help flood victims in Napier’s Esk Valley last month, said they found the experience highly rewarding.
The trip was the second of its type in recent weeks that involved Te Kūiti volunteers; this time taking a team of 11 who worked two-and-a-half days clearing silt and debris from a house and a block of flats.
Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) coordinator Joel Bradley said the team comprised volunteers from Journey Church, plus two young MTFJ trainees from Number Twelve and a Hawera resident who joined following publicity from the first trip.
“The team again loved doing what we could to help those affected,” Joel said.
“The owners of a house we cleared silt from had not yet returned to visit their property as it was too hard for them to do so.
“Their one wish was to try and recover their china sets.
“We made this a goal, and we were able to recover a huge amount of their sets and only a few were broken from the floods which was amazing to be able to save it all for them.
“The team was greatly moved by the experience and will be returning again soon.”
