Anita Kendrick on TV

LOCAL dog triallist Anita Kendrick will feature on television this weekend

Anita will feature in a special about the Ford Ranger New Zealand Rural Games, presented by TV3’s  sports reporter Tia McDougall, Farm4Life’s Tangaroa Walker and Mark Leishman.

It will screen on Saturday at 5pm and again on Saturday, April 6 at 9.30am.

At this month’s rural games in Palmerston North, Kendrick was part of a women’s team which won the dog trials.

The triallist, who is from Āria, got the top scoring run.

Permanently disabled in a motorbike accident, she loves her shepherding job and runs her dogs with the aid of a motorised traction scooter.

“This is a great promotion of our sport,” King Country Dog Trial association spokeswoman Robyn Stephens said.

In 2024, the Ford Ranger New Zealand Rural Games celebrated its ninth year with “splendid weather and an exceptional display of rural sportsmanship.”

Founder Steve Hollander said there had been a heightened level of competition across various events including Timbersports, shearing, sheep dog trials, fencing, and highland heavies competitions.

“The competition level reached new heights this year, attracting participants and spectators alike. The crowds were solid throughout the weekend,” he said.
