BUDDING eight-year-old historian Ivy Taylor, of Inglewood, recently became the first child to complete Mōkau Museum’s scavenger hunt.
Children coming to the museum are being encouraged to try their hand at the activity, which involves locating 10 items from around the exhibits,” Mōkau Museum collections manager and community coordinator Kath Jennings said.
“If they can complete this task, we give them a certificate.”
Kath said it was great that Ivy was the first child to attempt the scavenger hunt, as she loved museums and had brought in an old-looking piece of porcelain she’d found on rocks, on the beach at Mōkau.
“Ivy had been staying with her family at their bach and they encouraged her to come in and give us the item, which we’ve catalogued. It may be a piece of an old chamber pot.
“It was great to show Ivy and her family firsthand how museum’s work and we always appreciate this kind of public participation,” Kath said.
