Teen charged

A 19-year-old man will appear in court in Te Kūiti early next month in relation to a fatal crash on State
Highway 3, Te Mapara in July. A two-vehicle crash involving a vehicle towing a boat on a trailer claimed
the life of Nateisha-Kurstyn Hana-Wetere, 23, from New Plymouth.

Plenty of planting

Landowners worked with Waikato Regional Council to undertake voluntary environmental action on a
total of 347 projects across the region in the 2024-25 financial year. Waikato and West Coast Catchments
manager Grant Blackie said landowners collectively completed over 150 kilometres of fencing, planted nearly 570,000 plants and retired nearly 1140 hectares of land in the last financial year.

Coastguard call

Kawhia will be one of 30 communities across the country to host free seminars to help boaties build the
skills, local knowledge, and confidence needed to make safe decisions when crossing a bar. The Coastguard’s Bar Awareness Roadshow, in partnership with the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council reaches Kawhia on November 9.
