Another busy week has passed for King Country Police, with staff responding to a range of incidents across the district.

Police have been made aware of several thefts where fuel has been targeted. We encourage members of the public to report these incidents as soon as they are discovered, as timely reporting assists police to identify patterns and plan targeted patrols.

Police attended an address in Te Kūiti to assist a female experiencing a mental health crisis that resulted in a family harm incident. Officers assisted in transporting a female to mental health services in Hamilton.

Staff attended a sudden death in Ōtorohanga involving a terminally ill male who passed away in a public place. Due to the circumstances, the matter has been referred to the coroner.

Police are investigating a burglary in Ōtorohanga  where a male and female attended a property under the guise of seeking fuel assistance for a broken-down vehicle. While at the address, the pair stole a vehicle belonging to the occupant. Enquiries are ongoing and police are working to identify and hold those responsible to account.

A 33-year-old male was arrested in Te Kūiti for breaching his bail conditions and was transported to Hamilton custody.

In a separate incident, police arrested a 34-year-old male in Te Kūiti for breaching the conditions of his electronically monitored bail after leaving his approved address without permission. He was taken into custody without incident.

Staff have also been investigating a burglary in Ōtorohanga where a male entered a residential property, causing damage to both the dwelling and a vehicle on the property before fleeing. Police identified the offender as a wanted male who had removed his electronic monitoring bracelet and absconded from his bail address in Hamilton.

Following extensive enquiries, King Country police located and arrested the male at an address in Hamilton. Police have opposed bail.

Police are also investigating a serious assault where a known male allegedly assaulted another male and made threats toward him and his former partner.
