CHORUS is looking for artists to paint four roadside cabinets in the Waitomo district.

Waitomo District Council has chosen four cabinets, two at Waitomo Caves and two in Te Kūiti for the treatment.

Chorus community relations manager Jo Seddon said it made sense to partner with local councils, as they knew their communities best and had the same goal of discouraging graffiti vandalism.

She is looking forward to seeing what local artists come up with for the cabinets.

Council community relations manager Sarah McElroy, who is co-ordinating the initiative, said it was a great opportunity for local artists to design artwork representative of the communities they were proud of.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get any design submissions through last year for these cabinets, so we are putting the call out again,” she said.

Designs must be in by the end of the month.
