Te Kūiti
December 1: The Te Kūiti brigade was called out at 2.24am to assist its Ōtorohanga colleagues fight a substantial house fire on Gradara Ave, Ōtorohanga. At 10am that day they assisted St John with a medical call in Manawaiti St.
December 5: At 6.16pm the brigade was called to a house in Rangitoto Rd where a resident was concerned about a smoking power point.
The minor electrical fire was out upon arrival, so the brigade investigated and left the follow-up in the hands of the property owner.
At 10.48pm the brigade responded to a vehicle crash on SH3, however, the Piopio brigade arrived first, meaning Te Kūiti was turned around.
Ōtorohanga
December 1: The brigade coped with five calls and little sleep in an action-packed day, which began at 2am.
First off, staff went on standby at the station following a report of a car fire at Otewa, then at 2.24am they were called to a house fire at Gradara Ave.
The house was well involved when the brigade arrived and backup was called in from both Te Kūiti and Te Awamutu.
At 10.56am the brigade was called to assist after a person was reported to have been trapped in an accident involving a forklift at a business located at Maihiihi. Just after 1pm the brigade was called out to a crash at Ōpārau, in which a truck rolled.
The Ōtorohanga crew were turned back on their way to this incident as it was dealt with by the Kāwhia Brigade.
At 7.30pm, the brigade was called out after it was reported that a child fell off the back of one of the floats in the town’s Christmas Parade.
December 2: At 6.25pm the brigade was called to a “controlled fire” at Giltrap Engineering on Main North Rd. However, the flames were so high they had to put the fire out.
At about 2pm that day, the brigade was called out to help free a horse that was trapped in a horse float, which was accomplished with the help of a vet.
December 3: At 12.11pm the brigade was called out to do a lift assist on Hinewai St.
Piopio
December 5: At 10.48pm the brigade was called to a road crash on SH3, south of town. A vehicle was extensively damaged after hitting safety barriers at the roadside.
The sole occupant was assessed by St John, but they did not need treatment for injuries.
